Photography + Planning: 3 Reasons to Come Out from Behind the Camera

To me, planning and photography go hand-in-hand. And if you’re a fellow grown woman who plays with stickers, chances are you take photos of your prized paper and plans. But have you ever thought about being in those pictures yourself?! I know, CRAZY. And I get it, a lot of you dread the thought of being photographed. But here’s 3 reasons why I think it’s good to come out from the behind the camera every now and then. My fellow Happy Planner® SQUAD member, Amanda (@amanda_plans) did, and isn’t she stunning?!

When your audience sees the artist behind the planner, it provides a personal connection. I have always shown my face (whether I liked it or not) on the gram because it was my gram. So when I took the plunge and started sharing more of my Happy Planner® obsession, it was easy to continue showing my face, family, and others aspects of my life. What I have come to find is that it has made me more approachable, relatable, and trustworthy. And because of that, I have had the honor of connecting with so many more of you simply because you feel like you’re talking to a friend. Crazy thing is…YOU ARE.

There are only so many ways you can lay a sticker down and style a photoshoot of your planner. But add your dazzlin’ self to that and BAM! You now have much more content to create and work with. Do you use your planner for work? Photograph yourself using that bad boy on the job, show off that work wardrobe; or like Amanda did, get a photoshoot set up at some of your favorite work spaces or coffee shops. One hour of doing something like this can produce content FOR DAYS.

If you’re anything like me, you escaped to this paper and crafting world to help cope with anxiety, reach goals, connect with other creatives, keep you cozy in your craft room, and to manage a chaotic life while creating to your little heart’s content. But one thing I have noticed, one MAJOR thing, is that I am much more confident now than I was one year ago. It took stepping out of my comfort zone—from just being the “big girl” behind the camera to being a confident planner babe in front of the camera. If I can do it, so can you. TRUE STORY YO.

Now if none of that has convinced you, I will let the following photos do the rest of the talking. Here is one CONFIDENT and HAPPY friend of mine showing off what makes her a Happy Planner®. I am so proud of you, Amanda, for stepping out of your comfort zone and listening to every crazy direction I gave you during our shoot. You are a rockstar, babe!

Lastly, if you are in the Austin area and interested in getting some planner and/or lifestyle photos taken, hit me up RIGHT HERE. I would LOVE to capture your story and help you shine with confidence!
