Fall Home Decor 2019

Hey friends! I know it has been a while since my last blog, but I have some fun things in store as we transition into my favorite season…fall! This season is a big one for me because not only am I gearing-up for the holidays and two of our monkeys’ birthdays, but I am finishing my book. AH! It’s true! I am hunkering down this September and writing out the final chapters of The Gift of Suffering. I am beyond thrilled and cannot wait to share this work with you all. I am also asking for prayers during this time. Every time I sit down, breathe, and ask God to speak through my pen…our family gets hit—sickness, ER visits, financial issues, and the list goes on. It has been a trying season, but I know without a doubt that those tests are even more of a reason why I must complete this work. The holidays (just like life in general) can be some of the hardest seasons for people and I truly believe this work will help many. Will you pray beside me? I can’t thank you all enough for your continued prayers and support. I am one blessed chica!

But before I share any more about that, let’s chat fall decor! If you follow me on Pinterest, you probably noticed that I started pinning fall decor during the dead of summer. No shame here. I knew this fall would be a special one. Our kids are growing and understanding seasons and just how special each one is. They get so giddy when our home changes…when mama transforms the sights and smells. And you know what? I have realized just how beautiful it is for our souls. I don’t transform our home for Pinterest or for more likes on the gram…I transform it for us. So as I thought about what areas I wanted to focus on, I thought about our family. And as I decorated, I prayed over our home—that it would be flooded with new memories, loads of kisses and hugs, sweet moments with Jesus, and plenty of fun. I want our children to grow up and crave home and everything that comes with it.

Here is the plan those prayers and pins produced:

  • THE LIVING ROOM - this is where we cuddle, play, and spend much of our time together. May it be filled with a fragrance of love and unity

  • THE KITCHEN TABLE - this is where we gather, talk, and pray. May it be a place where our tummies and hearts get full—a safe space to talk about our days and our struggles

  • THE COFFEE BAR - this is where Phil and I connect over our favorite beverage, coffee. May it be filled with little romantic moments, sweet kisses, and a place where our marriage is strengthened

  • THE FRONT PORCH - this is the welcome to our home, the entrance to our safe haven after a long day. May it be a hug, an embrace, for all who enter

This is why I pour my heart and soul into our home. Because it is our home. And we are blessed beyond belief to have it.

So without further delay, let’s take a peek at how some it came out!

Between Hobby Lobby, Ross, Michaels, and Pier1…this is how our home entrance came together. I got the idea from Pinterest to layer the hay bales, turn the crate on its side, and create levels of pumpkins, lanterns, and other decor. I absolutely love how it came out! I definitely suggest layering and stacking. It gives a lot of dimension and an illusion that you have more than what you actually do. I couldn’t afford much this season (as most), so I am always looking at how to stretch our dollars and decor. My favorite part of the front entry, besides our beautiful Pumpkin “C” that I got from Kirklands last year, is the Hello Fall sign. Hobby Lobby thought of everything because when you flip it over it says, Boo!" I can’t wait to change it up and add our jack-o-lanterns in October!

Pillows were the biggest purchase for our living room. I went to Ross for these because (major pro tip) if you hit up Ross quite a ways before major holidays, you get the best pick of the bunch at prices you absolutely can’t beat! Each pillow was between $8-$10! That is about half the price at other places. And because I went so early, I got the best pick and cleaned out a lot of their selection. Sorry neighbors!

The second part of the living room is our Halloween corner. I don’t really do too much for Halloween when it comes to decoration, so this year I decided to change that! Our kiddos, especially Elly, love Halloween and all that comes with it—dressing up, movies, and all of the fun little traditions we do. So I had Philip dust off my old black candlesticks that I’ve had since college and I put a cute little message on my letter board. After that, all I needed was a Halloween candle, a tiny little haunted house, and some black candles to top the candlesticks. Between Pier1 and TJMaxx, I found just that! The kids went crazy when they saw it all! I think I am going to add one final touch this week and make some black paper bats that hang above the candles. What do you think?!

As I said earlier, Philip and I spend a lot of time around the coffee bar. We are parents of 3 crazy cuties who are 6 and under; therefore, it requires a lot of caffeine. It’s like our watering hole. We lean against it and just talk and talk. We’ve prayed together there. Philip’s held me in this very spot during many emotional moments. It’s a special place in our home! So, I had to give it some fall lovin’. I added a candy jar (I blame you, Belinda Selene) from Pier1 because it was the cutest one I have ever seen and Hocus Pocus is a classic! And of course, I busted out all of my fall mugs. Many of which are from Chalkfulloflove. Then I added a candle, a few pumpkins from the dollar spot at Target, and BAM! Festive watering hole for mom and dad.

Last but certainly not least, the kitchen table is where we always eat together as a family and chat. We talk about our days, we pray, and we feast! Philip and I are adamant about teaching our kids the importance of slowing down, gathering together, praying for one another, and breaking bread. It is so special. So for this area, I turned to Pinterest again for a new way to mix up my centerpiece. I pulled out a few things I already owned—a Magnolia wooden tray, leaf runner, some pumpkins, and mambi leaves. I bought some LED tea light candles from Hobby Lobby for $3 and did some laying around a candle holder I already had. Then I added a new candle and perfecto! The centerpiece was ready to go. All I needed were some place mats to match. And that’s where Ross came in hot again! I got so lucky because when I went, they were rolling out all of their fall decor so I got the first pick of everything. Hashtag BLESSED. I saw these place mats that matched and had scriptures on them. I about fell over! And then when I saw the price, I basically did fall over! A pack of four for $4.99! You can’t beat that. We have an 8 seater table, so I grabbed two packs to create a pattern—all for only $10! Such a steal!

I love how everything came out and so does mi familia! It’s already the start of such a beautiful season. Do you decorate for fall? I want to see how your home looks! If anything, I can’t encourage you enough to spend time each and every season praying over your home and family. Whether or not you love fall as much as I do, I think we can all agree that we simply love our home and want it to be the best place it can be.

Now, that’s not all I’ve got for you. I also have a YouTube video for you all! I am giving a more detailed look at our home and kicking off a fall YouTube series. YAY!
